Message From The Board
LSV Budget
As with many other organisations in the current financial climate, LSV has needed to prepare a very tight budget. Given recent success with lowering the Victorian drowning toll, it was considered imperative that all key programs and services be maintained. To do this the budget is set to deliver a break even result with an emphasis on improving this position through grant applications and the introduction of a number of retail initiatives later in the year.
The "Can Do" Approach
The preliminary results of the SLSA brand evaluation were presented to the Board. In essence they revolve around an emphasis on the "Can Do" approach:
"Very simply we believe the common link and the common driver of the movement is a shared attitude that underpins the belief and value system within and outside the movement. That's because, being Australian is an attitude and being a member of Surf Life Saving is an attitude. An attitude that says we can do it."
The Board felt this concept was just as relevant for a broader lifesaving organisation like LSV. With this, presentations of the overall findings and related outcomes will be presented at a number of forthcoming LSV forums.
Department of Justice (restructure)
Since LSV has been involved with the Department of Justice, it has been tied to the Office of the Emergency Services Commissioner. A recent restructure in the emergency services area has seen the organisation now aligned to the Emergency Services Policy and Support area.
In essence this shouldn't change the overall relationship with the Department of Justice. Along with the recently developed Integrated Emergency Services Framework it should ensure LSV continues to be seen as integral to the provision of Victoria's emergency services.
