ELITE DEVELOPMENT SQUAD

The Elite Development Squad is open to Under 17 and Under 19 athletes who have achieved at a high level and additional assistance is likely to be useful in assisting them to move into the top group of athletes in the State.  Applications for inclusion in the squad are open to athletes who are State or national under age medallists or those who have achieved finalist level in the Australian Surf Championships in the current year.  In exceptional cases under 15 athletes may be invited to join the squad if it is considered they will benefit across all development levels (skills, physiologically and psychologically)

Members of the EDS are provided with opportunities of both coaching and related education including nutrition, goal setting and media training.  There is no cost associated with membership of the EDS but numbers are limited to the ability of coaching and staffing to provide the services.  EDS athletes share advanced programs with the High Performance Squad and have specialist advanced coaching opportunities within the framework of both the HPS and JDS.

Applications for the Elite Development Squad Open in late January following the start of the season and close one week after the end of the Australian Championships in March.
