Lakes Entrance Indigenous Aquatics Project

Lakes Entrance Indigenous Aquatics Project

In mid 2008 Life Saving Victoria embarked on a four year project that connected Indigenous youth in East Gippsland with aquatics. The project concluded in June 2012 having provided valuable aquatics opportunities and knowledge to numerouschildren and youth of the region.  Hundreds of aquatic activities were organised in the area including learn to swim courses, surfing, lifesaving, education programs and training opportunities.

Through this project, youth positively interacted with their local schools, leisure centres, Community Health Centre, Police and the Surf Life Saving Lakes Entrance. The project successfully improved participation in this area and developed healthier, more culturally inclusive lifestyles.

The 'Lakes Entrance Indigenous Aquatics Project' was funded by the Department of Justice - Koori Unit.
