National Youth Development

National Leadership Development Camp (18 - 25 years)

The National Leadership Development Camp offers Australia's young surf lifesavers the opportunity to achieve their potential as a future leader. The program is designed specifically to develop individual leadership and personal development skills. Enhancements to the program ensure each participant experiences ongoing achievements as a result of establishing a new network of members and life-long friends.

The  National Leadership Development Camp is the beginning of ongoing leadership training for members of surf lifesaving. Clubs are encouraged to support the development of these outstanding members through mentoring and providing participants with leadership opportunities in their club environments.

National Youth Forum

The Telstra National Youth Forum is an initiative aimed at improving the retention of youth members in surf lifesaving. It is hoped that by giving these members a voice at a national level, new strategies and improvements in our current practices will result, and in turn give all our youth the great experiences they deserve.

16 participants are chosen annually from around the country. Successful participants take part in a number of discussion sessions throughout the forum regarding issues that are affecting the youth of surf lifesaving. From these discussions, SLSA and Telstra have made a commitment to deliver improvements in communications for the youth of surf lifesaving.

In addition to these discussion sessions, participants also take part in a number of personal development activities and attend a significant cultural event in Sydney.

SLSA acknowledges the continuing support of Telstra in running such programs and ensuring the continuing development of the youth of surf lifesaving.
