Building Leaders Scholarship 2009-2010
2009 Building Leaders Scholarship (18 - 30 years)
Leadership is a vital factor in the continued development of Australian communities. Life Saving Victoria (LSV) is committed to the personal development of identified leaders within its membership and the wider community. The Building Leaders Scholarship (BLS) targets 18-30 year olds and is the pinnacle of LSV's Leadership Pathway.
The Building Leaders Scholarship will engages scholars from LSV and other community organisations over a 12 month period. The Scholarship is designed to build leadership skills and knowledge and highlight the opportunities available to Victorians choosing to pursue leadership roles. Scholars will develop a state-wide network and receive training in core leadership competencies under the guidance of active leaders from lifesaving, business and the community.

The Scholarship
The 2009/2010 Building Leaders Scholarship consists of:
- Leadership development training (four (4) core weekends)
- Gaining an identified qualification
- The opportunity to work on projects in one of the following areas:
- Lifesaving Operations (LSV)
- Aquatic Sport (LSV)
- Youth & Leadership Development (LSV)
- Community Aquatic Education (LSV)
- Community Awareness & Development (LSV & Other)
- General Community (Other)
- Aquatic Risk (LSV)
Building Leaders Mentor
Each scholar will work with a Building Leaders Mentor over the Scholarship period. Scholarship applicants are required to identify and approach a Building Leaders Mentor.
A Building Leaders Mentor needs to be dedicated to the role and should be accessible to their scholar throughout the duration of the 12 month Scholarship.
Scholarship applicants should select a mentor who they believe would be able to assist them in their development. Mentors do not have to be associated with the lifesaving movement. Mentors should not take on more than two scholars at one time. In addition to the Scholarship, scholars will have the opportunity to complete their Certificate IV in Training and Assessment at a subsidised rate.

Weekend #1: August 15th & 16th 2009
Weekend #2: November 21st & 22nd 2009
Weekend #3: Aprill 10th & 11th 2010
Weekend #4: July 25th & 26th 2010
